The challenge
As Delaware was making a big push for the adoption and implementation of high-quality curriculum and instruction, concern arose about capacity to continue managing a flourishing middle-school math coach program.
Learning Forward’s popular Coaches Academy was sought after to help build capacity and expertise to continue the success of Delaware’s already established and growing coaching program. Through the Coaches Academy, Learning Forward facilitators could support participant coaches in learning to let their expertise guide their own thinking while supporting others in learning to independently think, adapt, and implement new practices.
Planning a solution
Learning Forward worked with the Delaware Department of Education guiding the design, facilitation, and evaluation of a custom professional learning program that supports the growth and development of middle-school math coaches statewide.
A critical consideration for this coaching support was that it differentiated to build the skills of coaches at all experience levels.
Customized coaching program
Learning Forward worked with Delaware to co-design a seven-month professional learning coaching program combining key tenets of Learning Forward’s Coaches Academy with Delaware's coaching program. The end result focused on building coaches’ skills rather than teaching them a coaching “model.”
